Kabul, February 2, 2025: After nearly two decades as a cornerstone of Afghanistan’s hospitality industry, the Kabul Serena Hotel has officially ceased operations as of February 1, 2025, with management being transferred to the Hotel State Owned Corporation (HSOC), an entity controlled by the Taliban government.

In a public statement, the hotel announced the end of its operations, marking the conclusion of a significant chapter in Afghanistan’s tourism and diplomatic landscape. Since its opening in 2005, Kabul Serena Hotel has hosted international dignitaries, diplomats, and state delegations, playing a key role in the country’s economic and professional development.

As a part of the renowned Serena Hotels Group, the Kabul property was celebrated for upholding international hospitality standards and contributing to Afghanistan’s economic growth. The statement emphasized the hotel’s impact on job creation, professional training for thousands of Afghans, and efforts to empower women through employment opportunities.

With HSOC assuming full operational control, guests and business partners have been directed to contact the state-owned entity for future inquiries.

In its farewell message, the Kabul Serena Hotel management expressed gratitude to its staff, partners, and patrons, acknowledging their contribution to its success. “Our dedicated team members have been instrumental in making Kabul Serena Hotel a symbol of true hospitality and impeccable service,” the statement read.
