Quetta, February 3, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for national cohesion to combat terrorism, emphasizing that political divisions must not hinder efforts to ensure the country’s stability and prosperity.
“There is no room for political rivalries on national security issues,” he stated while addressing a high-level meeting on Balochistan’s law and order situation during his special visit to Quetta.
His visit came in the wake of a recent terrorist attack in Balochistan, where 18 soldiers were martyred while thwarting an attempted assault. Security forces subsequently eliminated 23 terrorists in clearance operations.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists attempted to establish roadblocks in the Mangocher area of Kalat district.
“This cowardly act, carried out at the behest of hostile forces, was aimed at disrupting the peaceful environment of Balochistan by targeting innocent civilians,” the ISPR stated.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies swiftly responded, successfully neutralizing twelve terrorists. However, 18 soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice, embracing martyrdom during the operations. The military reaffirmed that sanitization efforts are ongoing and those responsible, including facilitators and abettors, will be brought to justice.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of security personnel, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the new wave of terrorism in the country and praised the courage and sacrifices of the armed forces.
“Our brave soldiers are offering their blood to eliminate terrorism. Their sacrifices will pave the way for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, and success,” he stated.
The premier assured that under the leadership of the army chief and Balochistan’s chief minister, efforts would continue to restore peace in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, essential for the country’s overall progress.
He also commended the high morale of troops and law enforcement personnel, stating that they are fully committed to safeguarding Pakistan from its enemies.
PM Shehbaz stressed that terrorists are enemies of peace and progress, seeking to hinder Balochistan’s development, education, and employment opportunities. However, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing uplift projects despite security challenges.
Highlighting initiatives such as the Youth Program and Laptop Scheme, he noted that special quotas were allocated for Baloch students in China for advanced agricultural training. He emphasized that the federal government remains focused on improving health, education, and employment opportunities in the province.
During his daylong visit, PM Shehbaz also met injured security personnel at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta, lauding their sacrifice and unwavering determination.
“You are national heroes. The entire nation, including myself, stands with you and your families, who embody the spirit of sacrifice. As long as Pakistan is protected by such brave soldiers, no enemy can succeed in its evil designs,” he remarked.
He reiterated that the Pakistani armed forces and the nation stand united in eradicating terrorism from the country.
