Rawalpindi, February 3, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has written a letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, criticizing the military’s role in governance and calling for a policy shift to restore public trust.
The letter, sent from Adiala Jail, warns of a growing disconnect between the military and the people. PTI lawyer Faisal Fareed Chaudhry, who shared details with journalists, stated that Imran emphasized the need for national unity in the fight against terrorism, arguing that success depends on the public’s confidence in state institutions.
Imran accused the establishment of supporting political figures who have twice benefited from the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)—a reference to past amnesty deals that cleared corruption charges against certain leaders. He also raised concerns about economic instability, election irregularities, and state-led crackdowns on PTI.
The letter reportedly outlines six key demands, urging the army chief to reconsider policies that, according to Imran, are fueling public resentment and widening the civil-military divide. He also criticized the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), the role of intelligence agencies, and the state’s alleged suppression of political opposition.
While PTI leaders have framed the letter as a direct appeal for a policy shift, the government has not responded, and the military has yet to issue an official statement.
A week earlier, Imran Khan sent a 349-page letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin, detailing alleged human rights violations, electoral fraud, and mass arrests of PTI workers.
The letter includes reports on election rigging, forced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings, particularly surrounding the events of November 26, 2024. Imran alleged that between November 24 and 27, hundreds of PTI workers were arrested, while hospital records were sealed and later altered to manipulate evidence.
He accused the judiciary of failing to uphold justice, despite multiple petitions highlighting election fraud and rights violations over the past 18 months.
“The current government came to power through electoral fraud and historic rigging,” Imran wrote. “This unconstitutional regime has unleashed severe repression against PTI, demolishing our offices and subjecting our leaders to brutal treatment.”
While PTI continues to push for judicial intervention, government officials have remained silent, and the allegations remain unaddressed by the judiciary.
