Islamabad: The oath-taking ceremony of the Officers Welfare Association (OWA) at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), was held with Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira administering the oath. The event was graced by Amir Fida Piracha, spokesperson to the President of Pakistan, along with faculty members and university officials.

The newly elected OWA leadership includes Dr. Muhammad Aamir Khan as President, Muhammad Aqeel Ahmad as Vice President (Male), and Sidra Shan as Vice President (Female). Muhammad Asif has assumed the role of General Secretary, while Sumaira Saleem and Arslan Khurshid have been appointed as Joint Secretaries (Female and Male, respectively). Akhtar Zeb Mohmand will serve as Finance Secretary, Amir Shahzad as Sports & Culture Secretary, and Syed Anwar-ul-Hassan as Information Secretary.

The OWA Executive Body comprises Syed Asif Kamal, Muhammad Mudassar, Shakeel Ahmad Siddiqi, Muhammad Rafi, Ansar Ahmad, Ali Rafay, Lubna Amjid, Khadija Ashrif, Nadia Mukhtar, Raja Hamid Nawaz, Muhammad Imran, and Sohaib Qureshi.

Addressing the gathering, Qamar Zaman Kaira congratulated the newly elected office bearers and executive members. He remarked that visiting IIUI has always been a learning experience, as the institution remains a prominent center of knowledge. He urged the new leadership to uphold their mandate with dedication, emphasizing that Pakistan and the Muslim world’s neglect of education has been a major obstacle to progress. He highlighted the pivotal role of academia in nation-building and stressed IIUI’s responsibility in fostering intellectual growth.

Amir Fida Piracha, spokesperson to the President of Pakistan, assured the OWA of full cooperation and expressed optimism that the association would play an active role in the university’s progress. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, recognizing the crucial role officers play in institutional development and academic excellence.

In his inaugural address, OWA President Dr. Amir Khan reaffirmed the association’s commitment to addressing the concerns of its members through dedicated committees and collective wisdom. “We are a welfare association, not a pressure group. Our priority is the university’s progress,” he stated.

General Secretary Muhammad Asif Chaudhary highlighted the officers’ fraternity as the backbone of the university’s management and development. He underscored the importance of adhering to the rule of law and called for the long-overdue Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting, expressing hope that university management would soon address this pending matter.

The ceremony concluded with renewed commitments from the OWA leadership to serve the officers’ community and contribute to the advancement of the university.
