Islamabad, February 18, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Turkiye, emphasizing the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $5 billion.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, the prime minister highlighted the long-standing brotherly relations between the two nations and praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his unwavering support for Pakistan at global forums, particularly on Palestine and Kashmir.

“President Erdogan has always been a strong voice for Palestine and Kashmir. Pakistan and Turkiye share deep-rooted ties and continue to support each other on international platforms,” PM Shehbaz stated.

The prime minister noted that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during President Erdogan’s recent visit to Pakistan. He directed the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant departments to work collectively towards achieving the $5 billion trade milestone.

As a symbol of Pakistan’s affection and appreciation for the Turkish leader, PM Shehbaz mentioned that the newly completed flyover in Islamabad was named after President Erdogan. The Recep Tayyip Erdogan Interchange, completed in just 84 days, is expected to ease traffic congestion in the capital.

PM Shehbaz also welcomed the findings of a recent Gallup survey, which indicated that 55% of Pakistanis have expressed confidence in the government’s pro-business policies.

Despite this positive outlook, he urged his cabinet to accelerate efforts to implement key economic initiatives, including the Uraan Pakistan program, aimed at economic revitalization.

Discussing his recent meeting with a World Bank delegation, the prime minister shared that directors of the global financial institution had unanimously appreciated Pakistan’s economic reforms and macroeconomic stability.

“The World Bank delegation praised our economic policies, and this recognition is a credit to every member of the cabinet,” he remarked.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that peace and security were directly linked to economic progress and stressed the need to create a conducive environment for sustainable growth.

He also paid tribute to Pakistan’s security forces, acknowledging their sacrifices in ensuring national security and stability.

“Our security personnel are laying down their lives for the protection of our nation. Their sacrifices are crucial to ensuring a prosperous and stable Pakistan,” he concluded.
