Islamabad, February 21, 2025: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has scheduled a review mission to Pakistan to negotiate the release of the next tranche of its $7 billion loan program.

IMF’s Resident Representative in Pakistan, Esther Pérez Ruiz, confirmed that an IMF delegation, along with a technical team, will visit the country in early March to conduct the first review of the program. Additionally, a separate IMF team will hold discussions on Pakistan’s request for climate financing, assessing potential funding arrangements and evaluating the country’s policies on climate-related initiatives.

The IMF has acknowledged Pakistan’s progress in governance reforms and anti-corruption measures, commending the government’s commitment to economic restructuring. Earlier this month, an IMF mission visited Pakistan from February 6 to 14 to conduct an initial assessment of governance and transparency measures. Another delegation is expected to return later this year for further evaluations aimed at enhancing economic governance and transparency.

The upcoming visit will also help prepare for the final review of the loan program, ensuring that Pakistan remains aligned with the necessary economic and structural reforms to unlock additional financing.
