Rawalpindi, February 21, 2025 – Security forces killed at least six terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, the military’s media wing reported on Friday.

According to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched based on intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants in the area.

“During the operation, security forces effectively engaged the terrorists, eliminating six,” the statement read. Following the engagement, a sanitization operation was carried out to clear the area of any remaining threats. ISPR reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.

The operation comes amid a surge in terrorist activity across Pakistan. According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 saw a 42% increase in militant attacks compared to the previous month. A total of 74 attacks were recorded nationwide, resulting in 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. An additional 117 people were injured, including 53 security personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the worst-affected province, followed by Balochistan. In KP’s settled districts, 27 attacks resulted in 19 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants. The tribal districts (formerly FATA) witnessed 19 attacks, causing 46 fatalities, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.

Security forces continue to conduct operations across the country to curb the rising threat of terrorism.
