Islamabad, April 18, 2025: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an extreme weather alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Punjab, warning of heavy rainfall, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms over the next 48 hours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the forecast covers multiple districts including Malakand Division, Hazara Division, Bannu, Charsadda, Karak, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mardan, Nowshera, Orakzai, Peshawar, Swabi, Waziristan, and surrounding areas, beginning Saturday evening through Sunday (April 18–19).

In a related advisory issued yesterday, NEOC also warned of similar weather conditions in several parts of Punjab, particularly in the upper and central regions. Areas likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad, where thunderstorms and heavy downpours may disrupt transportation and pose risks to infrastructure and agriculture.

NEOC cautioned that rain and snowfall in mountainous areas—especially in northern KP and upper Punjab—could trigger landslides or avalanches. Key roadways may face closures due to debris or snow accumulation, and flash flooding remains a risk in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

NDMA has urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert and follow safety guidelines via the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application, which provides real-time updates and hazard-specific advice. Travelers are especially advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before embarking on journeys, particularly in areas like Hazara and Malakand in KP and the Murree hills in Punjab.

Tourists and locals are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather periods, stay vigilant in landslide- and flood-prone regions, and adhere to local authorities’ safety directives.

NDMA emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging the public to take all necessary precautions. Emergency response agencies remain on high alert to manage any potential incidents.
