Islamabad, May 5, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday categorically rejected India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the recent Pahalgam incident without any evidence, reiterating his government’s call for a transparent, credible, and neutral international investigation into the matter. He also extended an invitation to the United Kingdom to participate in such an inquiry.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, at the Prime Minister’s House, according to a statement from the PM Office Media Wing.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif shared Pakistan’s perspective on the tense regional situation that has emerged following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed 26 lives.

He emphasized that Pakistan, acting with maturity and responsibility, remains committed to peace in the region. “We would never take any action that could jeopardize regional peace and security,” the prime minister stated, highlighting his government’s focus on economic development and stability with the support of international partners, including the UK.

He urged the United Kingdom—given its longstanding and cordial relations with both Pakistan and India—to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions and fostering dialogue between the two countries.

High Commissioner Marriott thanked the prime minister for sharing Pakistan’s position and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to working with both Pakistan and India to promote peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
