Jammu, May 8, 2025: Multiple explosions and air raid sirens were reported across Jammu city in Indian-occupied Kashmir late Thursday night, leading to widespread panic and a temporary blackout, according to local residents.
Shesh Paul Vaid, the former Director General of Police and a resident of Jammu, posted on social media suggesting that “bombing, shelling, or missile strikes” were suspected.
Speaking to Al Jazeera from Srinagar, journalist Umar Meraj said Indian media outlets were reporting intercepted drones and simultaneous attacks at several locations in Jammu. “Sirens are being heard not just in Jammu, but also in villages close to the Line of Control,” Meraj noted. “The intensity of clashes between Indian and Pakistani forces appears to be far greater than in recent years. What were once sporadic exchanges of small arms fire have now escalated to heavy artillery.”
According to Reuters, citing an unnamed Indian official, multiple areas including Akhnoor, Samba, and Kathua in Jammu were targeted. The agency also reported that a Chinese-made Pakistani J-10 fighter jet had been involved in action, though details remain unclear.
Pakistan, however, has categorically denied any involvement. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told the BBC: “We deny it. We have not mounted anything so far.” He added, “When Pakistan strikes, the world will know. We will not strike and then deny it.”
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from either side regarding casualties or damages. Tensions remain high along the Line of Control.
