Islamabad, May 16, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced that Pakistan had successfully shot down six enemy aircraft, including Rafale jets, MiG fighters, and drones, during recent hostilities, calling it a decisive moment that reinforced the nation’s sovereignty.

Speaking at a solemn Youm-e-Tashakur (Thanksgiving Day) ceremony held at the Pakistan Monument in Shakarparian, Islamabad, the Prime Minister said, “After a thorough investigation, I can confirm that six hostile aircraft were downed. This was a clear message to those who see themselves as the self-appointed guardians of South Asia: Pakistan will not be intimidated.”

The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, federal ministers, foreign diplomats, and other dignitaries. A flypast by the Pakistan Air Force marked the occasion, paying tribute to the courage and unity of the nation. Special prayers were also offered in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defense of the country.

Reflecting on the events of May 9, 10, PM Shehbaz recounted a tense night when an emergency meeting with military commanders concluded that the adversary had crossed a red line. “The enemy launched an unprovoked strike, resulting in civilian casualties, including the tragic loss of a six-year-old child,” he said. “They sought to demonstrate dominance by targeting our soil. They misjudged our resolve.”

The Prime Minister revealed that at around 2:30 a.m., he was briefed by the Chief of Army Staff regarding incoming missile attacks. “He asked for authorization to respond in a manner they would not forget. Hours later, the same enemy was calling for a ceasefire. I agreed, because Allah had granted Pakistan a resounding victory.”

PM Shehbaz extended gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the ceasefire. “I commend President Trump’s efforts and thank our international partners who stood by Pakistan in these challenging times.”

Calling for national unity and a renewed sense of purpose, the Prime Minister urged citizens to honor the vision of Pakistan’s founder. “This is the moment to build the Pakistan envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam. The blood of our martyrs calls us to move forward together, especially on the economic front.”

He added, “Our enemies were left scrambling for cover. I kept a secure phone beside me, waiting for the call that eventually came. Our response ensured that they will remember it for generations.”

Turning to regional stability, PM Shehbaz stressed the need for lasting peace. “We have fought three wars and achieved little. True peace in the region requires a just resolution of the Kashmir issue. Let us now engage as responsible neighbors and pursue dialogue.”

Highlighting Pakistan’s heavy sacrifices in the war on terror, he said, “We’ve lost over 90,000 lives and endured economic losses exceeding $150 billion. I pay tribute to the leadership of Army Chief General Asim Munir and the unwavering commitment of our armed forces.”

In closing, the Prime Minister described May 10 not only as a day of military triumph but as a turning point for the nation’s future. “Let this day be a symbol of economic revival and national cohesion. This is the Pakistan we are determined to build.”
