Islamabad, May 26, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert predicting widespread windstorms and thunderstorms across upper and central Pakistan from the night of May 27 to May 31.

The forecast follows the entry of moist currents in the region and an approaching westerly wave expected to affect northern areas by May 28, triggering active weather systems.

Regions likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rainfall include Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and surrounding districts. Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Chakwal among others in Punjab. Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Abbottabad, Kohat, Waziristan, and nearby areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive rain during these days.

The PMD warns that hailstorms, lightning, and strong dust-thunderstorms could damage fragile structures, such as power lines, solar panels, trees, and vehicles—especially in open or vulnerable locations like Islamabad and adjoining areas.

PMD has advised farmers to plan field activities carefully in light of the wet and windy conditions. Tourists and travellers should remain cautious, especially in hilly areas. It said that emergency response teams and local authorities have been instructed to stay on alert and take preventive measures to minimize disruptions and damage.
