Lahore, July 1, 2026: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has introduced precautionary operational measures at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, as part of its annual monsoon safety plan aimed at reducing the risk of bird strikes during the rainy season.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the PAA said bird activity in and around the airport, particularly below an altitude of 3,000 feet, increases significantly during the monsoon months. Pilots have therefore been advised to exercise heightened caution during aircraft approach and departure.
The authority has also directed airlines to carry adequate fuel to accommodate any anticipated ground or airborne holding resulting from the precautionary measures.
Under the revised operational plan, both runways at Lahore Airport will remain unavailable daily from 5:01 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. (Pakistan Standard Time) from July 5 to September 15, 2026, when bird activity is at its highest.
The PAA clarified that scheduled commercial flight operations will continue outside these restricted hours. However, in the event of an emergency, the runway will be made available to facilitate emergency landings.
The authority said the temporary measures reflect its continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety while minimizing inconvenience to passengers and airline operators during the monsoon season.
