Islamabad, May 27, 2025: The moon marking the beginning of ZilHaj 1446 AH was not sighted across Pakistan on Tuesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced. As a result, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The official announcement was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, after a meeting held in Islamabad. The session was attended by members of central and zonal Ruet committees, along with representatives from Suparco, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and other relevant institutions.
“No credible reports of moon sighting were received from any part of the country,” Maulana Azad told reporters, confirming that the first day of ZilHaj will fall on May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on the 10th of ZilHaj, June 7.
According to astronomical experts from Suparco and the Met Department, the moon was only about 11–12 hours old at sunset, making its visibility virtually impossible. “The moon was below the horizon in many parts of the country, and weather conditions further reduced visibility,” the Met Office reported.
In Lahore, a zonal committee meeting was held at Auqaf House, chaired by Mufti Muhammad Ramzan Sialvi. He confirmed that no moon sightings were reported from Lahore or surrounding areas. “The official moon sighting time ended at 7:43 pm in Lahore, and no credible evidence was received,” he said.
Similarly, in Karachi, the zonal committee led by Allama Hafiz Salafi reported no moon visibility. The final decision was relayed to the Central Committee. Moon sighting time in Karachi extended until 7:51 pm.
In Peshawar, the zonal Ruet meeting was convened at the Auqaf Hall, where dusty weather conditions further hampered chances of crescent visibility. “Given the moon’s young age and prevailing weather, sighting was unlikely,” said a Met Department representative.
Given the consensus across the country and alignment with scientific data, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has declared that ZilHaj will commence on May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on June 7, 2025.
