Islamabad, June 27, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday lauded the newly approved federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26, describing it as a reflection of the people’s needs and aspirations.

During a meeting with senators, members of the National Assembly, and the federal cabinet — a day after the lower house passed the Rs17.6 trillion budget — the prime minister appreciated the hard work of the economic team and thanked coalition partners for their role in shaping the budget.

“This budget is a representation of the people’s aspirations,” he said, adding that the support of allied parties made its passage possible.

On Thursday, the National Assembly approved the Rs17.6 trillion federal budget, which includes Rs463 billion in new taxes. While it brought the digital economy under the tax framework, it softened the enforcement of a key provision — one that sought to prohibit economic transactions by ineligible individuals. The budget was passed with a comfortable majority.

Emphasizing the importance of unity for national progress, PM Shehbaz stated:

“I firmly believe that this exemplary unity will ensure Pakistan’s economic growth.”

He called on all stakeholders to continue working together for the country’s development.

The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s recent victory over India in response to unprovoked aggression. He credited the collective efforts of the armed forces, political leadership, civil society, media, and the public for defending the nation’s sovereignty.

“This victory has significantly elevated Pakistan’s standing on the global stage,” he remarked.

Shehbaz praised the diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for effectively presenting Pakistan’s position to the international community and exposing India’s hostile designs. The delegation led by Bilawal, he said, received a warm reception worldwide, while overseas Pakistanis also applauded the government and armed forces for their united front.

Turning to the recently concluded Israel-Iran conflict, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Iran and the Iranian people. He confirmed that Pakistan maintained consistent communication with Iranian leadership, particularly President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, throughout the crisis.

“We hope that the resolution of the Israel-Iran conflict will pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity in the region,” he added.
