Dubai, July 2, 2025: Cricket fans around the world may mark their calendars for September 7, as reports from Indian media suggest that the highly anticipated Pakistan vs India clash in the 2025 Asia Cup is set for that date in Dubai.

The 17th edition of the Asia Cup is expected to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the tournament scheduled to commence around September 4 or 5 and conclude on September 21. Though the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has not yet released the official fixture list, a formal announcement is anticipated in the second week of July.

This year’s tournament will be played in the T20 format, following the traditional structure of group-stage matches followed by a Super Four round. With both India and Pakistan placed in the same group, their initial face-off is expected to take place on September 7. Depending on the results in the group stage, a potential rematch could occur in the Super Four round — and possibly even a third encounter in the final.

The participating nations are likely to include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and UAE, the host country.

Promotional content for the tournament has already begun circulating across Indian television and social media platforms, creating excitement among cricket fans despite the absence of an official schedule.

Earlier speculation about India potentially withdrawing from the event due to political tensions has been dismissed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which confirmed that no such move is under consideration. Media sources have reiterated that both countries are expected to fulfill their commitments to ICC and ACC tournaments, with no current restrictions preventing head-to-head matchups.

India enters the tournament as the defending champions, having convincingly defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the previous edition, which was held in the 50-over format.

With the Asia Cup serving as a crucial build-up to the ICC T20 World Cup next year, the high-stakes encounter between Pakistan and India is expected to be one of the marquee events in the cricketing calendar.
