Kingston, July 15, 2025: In the wake of a humiliating 3-0 Test series defeat at home to Australia, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has called an emergency strategy meeting, extending formal invitations to West Indies legends Brian Lara, Clive Lloyd, and Sir Viv Richards to join the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee.
The trio will work alongside Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw in an urgent review of the team’s “deeply disappointing” recent performances, including the historic low of being dismissed for 27 runs in Kingston – the second-lowest total in Test history and West Indies’ worst-ever.
The team was bowled out inside 14.3 overs, setting several unwanted records in the process: seven ducks in a single innings for the first time in Test history, and a combined total of just six runs from the top six batters – the lowest ever for any team.
CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow described the series loss as a moment of collective heartbreak for West Indies cricket fans.
“Like every West Indian cricket fan, I felt the pain of our recent Test defeat to Australia,” he said. “There will be some sleepless nights ahead for many of us, including the players, who I know feel this loss just as heavily.”
Despite the disappointment, Dr. Shallow urged calm and patience, emphasizing that West Indies cricket is currently in a rebuilding phase.
“We must not allow this moment to define our journey. We are steadily investing in the next generation and reigniting the spirit that has long made West Indies cricket a force in the world,” he added.
Addressing the inclusion of cricketing greats in the committee, Shallow clarified that their roles would be active and strategic, not merely symbolic.
“These are men who helped define our golden eras, and their perspectives will be invaluable. We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.”
He further stressed the need for unity in this challenging period:
“This is a moment that calls for collaboration, not division. We need everyone on board—fans, players, coaches, legends, and administrators—if we are to truly move forward.” While acknowledging glimpses of promise, particularly in the bowling department, the CWI president called on the batters to show greater intent and discipline.
“Progress is rarely straightforward. The road ahead will test us, but I have faith in the talent and commitment of our players when they apply themselves.” West Indies now look to regroup ahead of a five-match T20I series against Australia, starting July 21, followed by a white-ball series against Pakistan in August.
