Beijing, July 25, 2025: Pakistan and China have reiterated their commitment to strengthening strategic coordination and enhancing defence cooperation to confront hybrid and transnational threats, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

The reaffirmation came during Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir’s official visit to China, where he held a series of high-level meetings with senior Chinese political and military leaders. According to ISPR, the visit aimed to deepen the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.

During his stay in Beijing, Field Marshal Munir met with China’s Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions focused on evolving regional security dynamics, global strategic developments, and bilateral cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

“Both sides expressed satisfaction over the breadth and depth of bilateral engagement and reiterated their commitment to sovereign equality, multilateralism, and enduring regional stability,” the ISPR statement said.

The Chinese leadership praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their vital role in maintaining peace and stability in South Asia, describing them as a pillar of national resilience.

On the military front, COAS Munir held detailed meetings with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), as well as senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including General Chen Hui and Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun. Discussions encompassed defence modernisation, counterterrorism strategies, joint military training, and institutional collaboration.

Both sides emphasized enhancing operational interoperability to counter hybrid warfare and other emerging transnational threats. The Chinese military leadership reaffirmed full confidence in the strength of the bilateral defence partnership and acknowledged Pakistan’s crucial role in promoting regional security.

Field Marshal Munir thanked the Chinese leadership for their continued support, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening military cooperation “across all domains.” Upon his arrival at PLA Army Headquarters, he was presented with a guard of honour—symbolising the enduring camaraderie between the two armed forces.

“This visit reflects the growing depth of politico-military ties between Pakistan and China and highlights their shared resolve to promote peace through sustained high-level engagement,” the ISPR added.

In a separate meeting with COAS Munir on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated China’s strong support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism.

“The Pakistani military is a staunch defender of national interests and a firm supporter of China-Pakistan friendship,” Wang said, according to Chinese state-run media Xinhua.

He emphasized that both nations have stood by each other on core issues and called for further implementation of the consensus reached by the leadership of the two countries.

“China supports Pakistan’s resolute efforts to combat terrorism in all forms,” Wang said, adding that Beijing expects the Pakistani military to continue safeguarding Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating in Pakistan.

Field Marshal Munir responded by expressing appreciation for China’s longstanding support for Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He assured that the Pakistani military remains committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the security of Chinese interests in Pakistan and is ready to expand counterterrorism cooperation with Beijing.
