Tehran, July 26, 2025: At least nine people, including three gunmen and three law enforcement officers, were killed in a terrorist attack targeting a judicial building in southeastern Iran, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The assailants attempted to storm the courthouse disguised as visitors, wearing explosive vests, and launched the assault by throwing a grenade inside the building, according to Iranian authorities.

Initially, five fatalities were reported, but the judiciary’s Mizan News Agency later updated the death toll to six civilians, with the number of injured rising to 22, most of whom were civilians.

“Three of the terrorists have been killed, according to the announcement of the Quds Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC),” said Ali Movahedi-Rad, Chief Justice of Sistan-Baluchistan province.

The attack occurred in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchistan, a volatile province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, known for repeated incidents of violence involving separatist groups, militants, and smugglers.

Deputy police commander Alireza Daliri confirmed that a grenade was hurled into the building, causing multiple casualties and significant damage inside.

The province has seen frequent unrest. In October 2023, a similar “terrorist” assault left 10 police officers dead, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the region in recent years.

Iranian security forces have launched an investigation and heightened security across the province. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
