Lahore, August 22, 2025: Police on Friday arrested Shershah Khan, another son of Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with the May 9 riots, a senior Lahore police official confirmed.

The arrest came just a day after Shahrez Khan, Shershah’s brother, was taken into custody in the Jinnah House attack case linked to the 2023 unrest. Lahore’s SSP Investigation declined to share details, saying the matter was still under investigation.

The PTI, however, described Shershah’s arrest as an “abduction,” claiming that plainclothes men stormed Aleema Khan’s residence and harassed the family. The party alleged that Shahrez was tortured in front of his children during his arrest earlier this week.

Earlier on Friday, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted an eight-day physical remand of Shahrez Khan in the Jinnah House case. Police had sought a 30-day remand.

Advocate Salman Akram Raja, representing Shahrez, argued that his client had been arrested two years after the incident, despite his mother already being discharged from the case. He contended that Shahrez had no political role in PTI and urged the court to drop the charges. Police opposed the plea, with DSP Asif Javed presenting case records and asserting Shahrez’s involvement.

The Jinnah House attack — targeting the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence — was one of the most high-profile incidents during the May 9, 2023 riots, which erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case. The violence saw PTI supporters storm military installations, attack public and private property, and desecrate monuments of martyrs.

DIG Investigation Zeeshan Raza said those responsible for “anti-state activities” would face no leniency. PTI leaders, meanwhile, insist the arrests are politically motivated.
