Beijing, September 2, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting from Beijing to review Pakistan’s flood situation and ongoing relief operations, directing authorities to expedite rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in Punjab and Sindh.

The prime minister temporarily paused his official engagements in Beijing to receive detailed briefings from the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Chief Secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and senior officials from various institutions.

He instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Ministry of Energy to immediately restore damaged road links and electricity transmission systems on a priority basis. Stressing the need for complete coordination, he called on the federal and provincial governments, along with all relevant agencies, to ensure timely relief for affected families, relocation to safer areas, and rehabilitation of infrastructure.

The NDMA chairman briefed the meeting that authorities are monitoring high flood levels in the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers, with regulation of dams and barrages underway. Critical points under threat include Trimmu, Balloki, Sidhnai, G.S. Wala, and Sulemanki, while a severe flood wave is expected at Panjnad, likely to reach Guddu Barrage in Sindh by September 6. Preparations are ongoing in coordination with the Sindh government.

The meeting was also informed that Rescue 1122, the Pakistan Army, Rangers, NGOs, and PDMAs are carrying out rescue and relief operations in affected areas, while convoys of aid continue to be dispatched. Restoration of electricity in flood-hit regions is also progressing.

Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and to intensify search and recovery operations for citizens reported missing.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar attended the meeting in Beijing, while the NDMA chairman and senior officials joined via video link from Pakistan.
