Islamabad, October 14,2024-During a closed-door session of the special parliamentary committee on the 26th constitutional amendment, a unanimous proposal was put forth to rename Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as simply “Pakhtunkhwa.”
Sources report that the Awami National Party (ANP) introduced the suggestion to remove “Khyber” from the province’s name, and thus far, no political party has voiced opposition. The committee decided to continue consultations on the proposed constitutional amendments, with a sub-committee expected to submit a final report within two days. The sub-committee will prepare the final draft in the same timeframe.
Sources also indicated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans to share its amendment draft with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). Committee chairman Khurshid Shah emphasized that the law minister would finalize the draft after consulting with all political parties.
