Lahore, October 14, 2024 – At least 28 people were injured in clashes between students and police during a protest against the alleged rape of a college student in Lahore. According to Rescue 1122 officials, 24 students and 4 police officers received first aid following the violence outside a private college in Lahore’s Gulberg area.

The protest erupted after reports of the alleged rape, involving a college security guard, went viral on social media. The security guard was recently arrested in connection with the allegations.

Speaking at a press conference, Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations, Faisal Kamran, stated that an investigation into the alleged rape is underway. He mentioned visiting the college campus and questioning witnesses, but none provided concrete information.

“So far, no one has officially reported the incident,” DIG Kamran said, emphasizing that social media reports are not always reliable sources of information.

A spokesperson for the DIG confirmed that the security guard remains in police custody, and an investigation is ongoing. However, the spokesperson noted that the alleged victim and her family have not come forward, and neither the police nor the college administration had been formally informed of the incident.
