Islamabad, October 6, 2025: Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Asim Malik will reportedly continue to serve in his current position, according to informed sources.

Lt Gen Malik, who also holds the portfolio of National Security Adviser (NSA), was appointed as the ISI chief in September 2024, succeeding Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum.

Sources said the 55-year-old officer is regarded as one of the most capable and respected figures within the Pakistan Army.

In May 2025, Lt Gen Malik was given additional charge as NSA, amid heightened tensions with India following the Pahalgam attack. A notification issued by the Cabinet Division at the time stated that the appointment was made “with immediate effect.”

Before taking charge of the ISI, Lt Gen Malik served as the Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in October 2021, he was appointed Adjutant General soon after. His earlier postings include commanding the Waziristan Infantry Brigade and serving in the Balochistan Infantry Division.

According to PTV News, the ISI chief was awarded the Sword of Honour during his military training — one of the highest distinctions conferred upon a cadet.

Lt Gen Malik has also held key instructional positions, including as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.

An alumnus of Fort Leavenworth (United States) and the Royal College of Defence Studies (London), he is widely seen as an officer with a blend of operational experience and strategic acumen.
