Lahore, October 6, 2025: Heavy rain and powerful winds wreaked havoc across multiple districts of Punjab over the past 24 hours, leaving at least four people dead and 28 others injured, while causing extensive damage to houses and infrastructure.
According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, most of the casualties occurred due to roof and wall collapses triggered by the intense storm activity.
In Tandlianwala, two children were killed and seven others injured when the roof of a house caved in. In Nankana Sahib, one person died and four others were injured in similar incidents reported from nearby villages.
Three people sustained injuries in Manawala (Sheikhupura), while another fatality and five injuries were reported from Kasur. In Lahore, parts of several old structures collapsed during the downpour, injuring two people, Rescue officials said.
According to data released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), several districts experienced record rainfall over the last 24 hours:
- Multan: 113 mm
- Faisalabad: 78 mm
- Bahawalpur: 44 mm
- Lahore: 40 mm
- Khanewal: 28 mm
- Toba Tek Singh: 25 mm
- Sialkot: 19 mm
- Jhelum: 18 mm
- Attock: 10 mm
The PDMA warned that rainfall is expected to continue across most districts over the next 24 hours, particularly in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that the ongoing rain is likely to increase water flow in major rivers, including the Indus and Jhelum, while the Chenab River may also experience a rise in water levels by October 7.
He added that the flow in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers will depend on water releases from Indian reservoirs, warning that smaller tributaries could also swell due to the continuous rainfall.
The PDMA has placed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue agencies on high alert.
DG Kathia urged citizens to stay indoors during strong winds and storms and to avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas.
“Citizens are requested to take precautionary measures and remain in safe places during bad weather,” he said, adding that the public should contact the PDMA helpline (1129) in case of emergencies.
