New Delhi, October 12, 2025: India tightened their grip on the second and final Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, enforcing the follow-on after securing a massive first-innings lead, but the West Indies mounted a spirited second-innings resistance, reaching 173-2 at stumps on day three.
Having been bowled out for 248 in their first innings in reply to India’s imposing 518-5 declared, the visitors still trail by 97 runs, hoping to avoid a second consecutive innings defeat following their three-day loss in Ahmedabad.
Opener John Campbell led the fightback with a composed 87 not out, while Shai Hope provided solid support with an unbeaten 66, as the duo shared an unbroken 138-run stand for the third wicket.
Earlier in the day, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (5-82) dismantled the West Indies lower order after they resumed on 140-4, sparking a collapse that saw the tourists lose their last six wickets for just 108 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took 3-46, while Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with a wicket each.
Forced to follow on, the West Indies faltered early once again — Tagenarine Chanderpaul (10) was brilliantly caught by India skipper Shubman Gill off Siraj, and Alick Athanaze (7) was bowled by Washington Sundar just before tea.
However, Campbell and Hope steadied the innings with positive stroke play and confident defense, marking the first time in the series that India’s spinners were put under sustained pressure. Campbell survived three close reviews before reaching the first half-century by a West Indian batter in the match.
India, eyeing a 2-0 series sweep, remain firm favourites heading into day four, but the visitors will look to continue their defiance and stretch the match into a fifth day.
