Islamabad, November 1, 2025: Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies have arrested a fisherman allegedly working for Indian intelligence agencies to spy on Islamabad, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced on Saturday.
Addressing a joint press conference in the federal capital, Tarar said the suspect, identified as Ijaz Mallah, had been detained by Indian authorities in September this year before being coerced into espionage activities.
“Mallah was taken to an undisclosed location in India, where he was threatened with up to three years in jail if he refused to cooperate. He was promised financial rewards for carrying out specific tasks and later released to return to Pakistan,” Tarar said.
The minister revealed that Indian intelligence agencies had tasked Mallah with procuring uniforms of the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Rangers, as well as obtaining local SIM cards and phone bills for espionage purposes.
“Our intelligence agencies had been monitoring his activities and arrested him while he was preparing to return to India after completing his assignments,” Tarar said, adding that the suspect confessed to his crimes after his arrest.
A video confession released by the authorities showed Mallah admitting that Indian agents had threatened him with imprisonment if he refused to spy for them.
Tarar said that Pakistan’s agencies had recovered several items from the suspect, including Pakistani SIM cards, matchboxes, lighters, and military uniforms, which he intended to hand over to Indian handlers.
He further alleged that India’s recent “anti-Pakistan propaganda” reflected its frustration over diplomatic and strategic failures. “Following the collapse of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ India has been attempting to malign Pakistan through false narratives,” the minister claimed.
“India is alarmed by Pakistan’s growing international prestige, and its fabricated claims and propaganda have now been exposed before the world,” Tarar added.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, speaking on the occasion, said the arrested agent had been specifically instructed to obtain a SIM card from a particular mobile network. He commended Pakistani media for “defending the country’s reputation at the international level.”
