Islamabad, December 4, 2025: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday signed three agreements and 12 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors, including energy, trade, tourism, agriculture, sports, mining, and geosciences. The signing ceremony took place at the Prime Minister’s House during the official visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.
The agreements also cover the exchange of convicted prisoners, cultural collaboration, and the declaration of Bishkek and Islamabad as sister cities—aimed at fostering deeper people-to-people and municipal ties.
MoUs exchanged between the Pakistan Foreign Service Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Kyrgyzstan seek to promote diplomatic training and institutional partnerships. Another MoU was signed between Pakistan’s Ministry of Law and Justice and the Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice to enhance legal cooperation.
The documents were formally exchanged by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Kyrgyz counterpart, in the presence of President Zhaparov and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, President Zhaparov was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s House. A smartly turned-out contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces presented a guard of honour, after which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif introduced members of his cabinet to the visiting dignitary. The two leaders also planted a sapling at the PM House lawn before proceeding to the formal talks.
Following the delegation-level discussions, both leaders oversaw the signing of the agreements and later signed a joint communiqué reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Kyrgyz president, terming his visit “highly significant” for advancing Pakistan–Kyrgyzstan ties. He noted that a Kyrgyz head of state was visiting Pakistan after nearly two decades, adding that the visit presents an opportunity to open new avenues of cooperation.
The prime minister said both sides held productive talks covering trade, energy, connectivity, and other key sectors, alongside important regional and global developments. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Kyrgyzstan to broaden economic and strategic cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the role of the Pakistan–Kyrgyzstan Business Forum in generating new prospects for collaboration, adding that both countries aim to increase bilateral trade from the current $15 million to $200 million over the next two years.
