Govt urges public to ignore fake CDF notification; clarifies rules on Imran Khan’s jail meetings

Islamabad, December 4, 2025: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday urged the public not to be misled by a fake notification circulating on social media regarding the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). The ministers assured that the government will issue the official notification soon.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad, Azam Nazeer Tarar said the process of finalising the appointment was underway and the “storm in a teacup” would settle once the authentic notification is released. “There is no need to worry. The original notification will come at the appropriate time,” he said.

The law minister also addressed the increasing debate around meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan, saying that the legal framework governing prisons must be respected. He clarified that the Punjab government holds the authority to allow or restrict meetings with the former prime minister, who is currently serving a sentence in a corruption case.

Tarar said that under jail rules, superior-class prisoners are entitled to one meeting per week, while no more than six visitors may attend at a time. He added that the jail superintendent has the power to stop or limit meetings under Rule 557 if they violate regulations.

He further emphasised that political discussions inside the prison are strictly prohibited. “PTI members cannot hold political conversations during jail meetings. Whatever is discussed cannot be made public,” he said, adding that meetings involving Uzma Khan will no longer be permitted.

Calling Imran Khan a “convicted criminal,” the law minister noted that prisoners are not allowed unsupervised meetings and must adhere to all restrictions imposed by jail authorities. He recalled that even during his own visits, he had to follow stringent protocols.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar criticised PTI leaders for giving interviews to Indian media outlets and accused Imran Khan’s family members of attempting to create daily disturbances. He reiterated that the PTI founder enjoys more facilities than any prisoner in Pakistan’s history. “This breakfast is not something an ordinary Pakistani can afford,” he remarked.

The information minister said the government halted certain jail meetings after repeated violations of rules. “When laws are breached after meetings, the authorities have the right to stop them,” he added.
