Islamabad, December 8, 2025: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a two-day official visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marking his first trip to Pakistan since assuming office.

According to PTV News, President Subianto was received at the Nur Khan Airbase by PM Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari. Children in traditional attire presented bouquets to the visiting dignitary, while a contingent of the armed forces offered a 21-gun salute as part of the ceremonial welcome.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz said he was honoured to host the Indonesian leader, noting that Pakistan and Indonesia “are bound together by a shared history, deep cultural affinity and a friendship rooted in mutual respect and solidarity.” He added that he looked forward to “meaningful engagements” aimed at further strengthening the partnership.

Radio Pakistan reported that President Subianto is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including key ministers and senior officials.

The Foreign Office earlier said the visit, taking place from December 8–9, carries particular significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia. It added that the two sides will discuss a “wide-ranging agenda” focused on deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation.

During his stay, President Subianto will hold delegation-level talks with PM Shehbaz and meet President Zardari. He will also be called on by Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

Discussions are expected to cover enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, defence, health, information technology, climate resilience, education, and culture, as well as improved coordination at regional and global forums. Several memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed during the visit.

Pakistan and Indonesia share longstanding ties rooted in cultural and religious affinity, with ongoing collaboration in sectors such as trade, education, health, and defence.

In July, Indonesia’s Defence Minister Lt Gen (retired) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met PM Shehbaz in Islamabad, expressing interest in expanding defence cooperation, particularly in defence production. Earlier in June, both countries agreed to strengthen collaboration in vaccine production, pharmaceutical development, medical education, and human resource exchange.
