Abbottabad, December 8, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police recovered the body of Dr Warda Mushtaq, who was abducted four days ago from Benazir Shaheed District Hospital, from a remote area on Thandiani Road, Lari Binota, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to police, Dr Warda had left the hospital with her friend, Rida, shortly before her disappearance. Following the abduction, Rida and two other individuals were arrested. Investigations revealed that Dr Warda had kept approximately 67 tolas of gold jewellery with her friend since 2023 and had reportedly gone to reclaim it.

Police said Rida took Dr Warda to her under-construction house and handed her over to suspects Aurangzeb and Nadeem, who allegedly killed the doctor in Lari Binota. Acting on the suspects’ information, authorities recovered the body and transferred it to DHQ Hospital for a post-mortem. Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, doctors and hospital staff staged protests against the abduction and murder, suspending all hospital services. Demonstrators took to the streets, blocking traffic at Fawara Chowk, raising slogans against the police for alleged negligence.

Dr Asfandiyar, Provincial President of the Young Doctors Association, criticised the provincial government, saying, “Nothing was done over four days to recover the missing doctor, highlighting the incompetence of the Health Department and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.” He added that OPD services across the province will be boycotted starting Tuesday, and protests will continue until accountability is ensured.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police regarding the abduction and subsequent brutal murder of a lady doctor from Abbottabad DHQ Hospital.

Expressing deep anger and sorrow over the tragic incident, the Governor termed the crime “unforgettable” and stressed that the perpetrators must be given exemplary punishment. He said such heinous acts cannot be tolerated under any circumstance.

Governor Kundi further said that, as the Governor of the province, he stands in solidarity with the doctors’ community across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and shares the grief of the martyred doctor’s family during this difficult time.
