Islamabad, January 28, 2026: A four-member delegation led by Sardar Tahir Mehmood, the newly elected President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), held a meeting with Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, at the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar underscored the importance of further strengthening Malaysia–Pakistan economic relations by expanding cooperation in trade, investment and people-to-people linkages, with a particular focus on emerging and high-potential sectors. He appreciated ICCI’s proactive role in promoting business-to-business engagement and reaffirmed Malaysia’s strong commitment to deepening economic collaboration with Pakistan.

The Malaysian envoy stated that Malaysia views Pakistan as a key economic partner and emphasised the need for closer interaction between the private sectors of both countries. He also agreed to visit the ICCI at the earliest to hold direct interactions with Islamabad’s business community. Both sides expressed confidence that coordinated efforts could help enhance bilateral trade volume to between $3 billion and $4 billion.

On the occasion, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood identified the halal industry as a priority area for immediate collaboration. He proposed joint halal certification standards, the establishment of halal parks and food processing facilities, and the expansion of meat exports. He also called for enhanced cooperation in the IT and digital economy, real estate and low-cost housing sectors.

Highlighting the potential for value addition in agriculture, Sardar Tahir Mehmood stressed the importance of joint ventures between Pakistani and Malaysian firms. He further proposed structured business-to-business matchmaking to facilitate partnerships and accelerate trade and investment ties between the two countries.
