Islamabad, March 27,2026: President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has strongly condemned attempts by certain elements to sabotage Pakistan’s economy by conspiring to have the country’s GSP Plus status withdrawn, terming such moves as an assault on the national economic interests.

Talking to different groups of visiting businessmen here on Friday, he said that the GSP Plus status granted by the European Union is vital for Pakistan’s exports and economic stability. He regretted that some elements are trying to harm the country’s economy on one pretext or another, adding that such conspiracies against national interests are highly unfortunate.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood categorically stated that such elements will not be allowed to succeed in their designs. He stressed that protecting the state and safeguarding national economic interests is the foremost responsibility of every patriotic citizen.

He said that Pakistan’s economic progress requires unity, commitment and collective efforts from all segments of society. Every citizen must play his due role in putting the economy on the path of development and prosperity, he added.

The ICCI President further remarked that no matter how many conspiracies are hatched, Pakistan will continue to remain strong and resilient. He emphasized that no political party or leader is bigger than the country and that national interest must always take precedence over personal or political agendas.

He also reaffirmed that the business community stands firmly with the government in efforts aimed at strengthening the economy. The private sector, he said, is fully determined to work hand in hand with the government to promote trade, investment and economic stability for the prosperity of the country.
