Islamabad, May 5, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, expressing Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Emirati leadership and people.
In a statement posted on X, the prime minister said Pakistan stood firmly with the UAE President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the people of the Gulf nation during the difficult time.
“Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as with the government of the UAE at this difficult time,” PM Shehbaz said.
He stressed the need for restraint and diplomacy in the region, saying it was “absolutely essential” that the ceasefire be upheld and respected to create space for dialogue aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The remarks came after the UAE announced on Monday that it had been targeted by Iranian missile and drone strikes, including an attack on the strategic Fujairah energy hub that reportedly injured three Indian nationals.
Fujairah holds strategic importance as it lies outside the Strait of Hormuz, making it one of the few major Middle Eastern oil export routes that bypass the narrow maritime passage.
The UAE foreign ministry described the attacks as a “dangerous escalation” and an “unacceptable transgression,” warning that Abu Dhabi reserved the right to respond.
Iranian state television, meanwhile, reported that military officials had confirmed carrying out the attacks in response to what it termed “US military adventurism” in the region.
The latest escalation disrupted a period of relative calm following a Pakistani-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran that came into effect on April 8 after more than a month of intense conflict across the Gulf region.
The strike also renewed concerns over the security of the UAE’s energy infrastructure. Earlier, on March 14, a drone attack had targeted the Port of Fujairah, sparking fires and temporarily disrupting some oil-loading operations.
