Islamabad, May 12, 2026: The Senate of Pakistan has formally approved the recitation of Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool ﷺ after the recitation of the Holy Quran at the commencement of every Senate sitting, marking what officials described as a historic first in Pakistan’s parliamentary history.
The decision was unanimously approved during Monday’s Senate session presided over by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. According to the Senate Secretariat, the new practice officially came into effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Members of the Upper House warmly welcomed the initiative and unanimously endorsed the motion to incorporate Naat recitation into the formal proceedings of the Senate.
Under the newly adopted practice, Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool ﷺ will be presented immediately after the recitation of the Holy Quran at the beginning of every Senate session.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that devotion and love for the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ are fundamental elements of faith. He stated that the inclusion of Naat recitation in Senate proceedings would help promote Islamic values, national traditions, and religious harmony.
He further remarked that the initiative would add spiritual dignity and reverence to the proceedings of the House and would also serve as a positive example for younger generations in expressing love and respect for the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
