Lakki Marwat, May 12, 2026: The death toll from a powerful explosion near the Naurang Police Station in the Sarai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat has risen to nine, police confirmed on Tuesday, while several others sustained injuries in the incident.

District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan said that 23 injured victims are currently under treatment, while seven others with minor injuries have been discharged from hospital.

He added that several shops and vehicles in the area were also damaged as a result of the blast, which occurred near a rickshaw in Naurang Bazaar.

Hospital authorities stated that the bodies of seven victims were initially shifted to Naurang Hospital. Officials further confirmed that two traffic police personnel were among those martyred. Women and children were also included among the injured brought to medical facilities.

Following the incident, an emergency was declared at Sarai Naurang Hospital to handle the influx of casualties.

According to DPO Nazir Khan, the blast was caused by a vehicle in which more than one maund of explosives had been planted. He said terrorists were targeting innocent civilians, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the explosion was a suicide attack or remotely controlled.

Separately, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police and termed the incident deeply tragic, assuring full provincial government support for the victims and their families.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the martyrdom of nine people, including two traffic police personnel, in the blast.

In his statement, the prime minister said that terrorists would not be allowed to undermine peace and development in the country. He reaffirmed that the government and security institutions were working with full resolve to eliminate terrorism.

He also directed authorities to conduct a swift investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border terrorist incidents in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Officials have repeatedly urged authorities in Afghanistan to prevent the use of its territory by militant groups carrying out attacks inside Pakistan.
