Islamabad, May 18, 2026: Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the drone attack on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates, terming the targeting of nuclear facilities a serious violation of international law and global nuclear safety norms.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan expressed full solidarity with the government and people of the UAE following the attack that reportedly took place on May 17.

The statement said any deliberate attack on nuclear installations constitutes a grave breach of international law, including international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of nuclear safety and security enshrined in the statutes and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

“Nuclear installations must never be targeted under any circumstances,” the Foreign Office said, warning that such reckless actions could have catastrophic and irreversible consequences for human life, the environment, and regional as well as global peace and security.

Pakistan emphasized that the inviolability of civilian nuclear infrastructure is a universally recognized international norm that must be upheld without exception.

Calling for restraint, Pakistan urged all parties to fulfil their obligations under international law and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions in the region.

The Foreign Office further stressed that dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, remain the only viable path toward lasting peace, stability, and de-escalation.
