Islamabad, June 29, 2026: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to democratic governance, parliamentary supremacy, inclusiveness, and public representation on the occasion of the International Day of Parliamentarism, observed annually on 30 June.

In his message, Chairman Senate noted that the day marks the founding of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in 1889 and serves as a reminder of the vital role parliaments play in promoting democracy, accountability, transparency, peace, and sustainable development worldwide.

Mr. Gilani stated that strong parliamentary institutions are indispensable for addressing contemporary challenges, protecting citizens’ rights, ensuring effective governance, and strengthening public trust in democratic processes. He emphasized that parliaments serve as the voice of the people and provide an essential platform for dialogue, consensus-building, and national progress.

The Chairman Senate highlighted the Senate of Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote democratic values, legislative excellence, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and meaningful public engagement. He said that parliamentary diplomacy has become increasingly important in fostering international understanding, regional peace, and cooperation among nations.

Chairman Gilani further underscored the importance of enhancing the participation of women, youth, and marginalized communities in democratic institutions, noting that inclusive representation is fundamental to a vibrant and resilient democracy.

On this occasion, the Chairman Senate paid tribute to parliamentarians around the world who continue to work for peace, justice, human dignity, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and advancing the principles enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
