Islamabad, July 30, 2026: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has generated a 164 per cent increase in revenue through a transparent open auction of Collection Points across all Union Councils in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), aiming to strengthen local governments and improve municipal services.
The two-day auction, held on July 27 and 28, licensed Drts for all Union Councils through a competitive bidding process designed to enhance the financial autonomy of local bodies and support sustainable improvements in sanitation and civic services.
Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad Dr. Anam Fatima said the initiative was intended to enable Union Councils to independently manage sanitation services and other essential municipal functions through their own revenue resources.
She said the Collection Points were auctioned through a transparent and open process, ensuring fair competition, equal opportunities for bidders and optimum value for public assets.
According to the MCI, the auction generated bids worth Rs112.735 million, compared with Rs42.720 million in the previous auction, reflecting an increase of Rs70.015 million and a 164 per cent rise in municipal revenue.
Dr. Anam Fatima said the revenue generated from each Collection Point would be utilized for the development needs of the respective Union Council, including cleanliness, solid waste management, maintenance of public facilities and other civic services.
She added that the initiative would allow Union Councils to use locally generated resources for the direct benefit of their communities while strengthening decentralized governance.
The auction attracted strong participation from contractors, business representatives and other interested bidders, resulting in competitive bidding and higher financial returns for the public exchequer.
The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, merit-based governance, financial discipline and decentralized resource management to strengthen local government institutions and improve municipal services across the federal capital.
