Islamabad, October 27,2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling for a just and peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his message on Jammu and Kashmir Black Day, observed on October 27, the prime minister said 79 years had passed since Indian forces landed in Srinagar, marking the beginning of a tragic chapter in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the people of the disputed territory had since been denied their inalienable right to self-determination, despite its affirmation in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The prime minister paid tribute to the courage and resilience of Kashmiris, saying their sacrifices across generations reflected their unwavering commitment to freedom, dignity and justice.
He expressed concern over what he described as India’s continued efforts to suppress legitimate political expression and silence voices representing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The prolonged incarceration of Kashmiri political leaders, activists and human rights defenders, he said, underscored the need for due process, respect for fundamental liberties and greater international attention.
Referring to India’s unilateral measures in IIOJK since August 5, 2019, Shehbaz Sharif said the restrictions had affected the political, legal and demographic character of the territory. He stressed that these developments must be addressed in accordance with international law and applicable UN Security Council resolutions.
The prime minister maintained that lasting peace and stability in South Asia could not be achieved without a just and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
He paid tribute to the countless Kashmiri men, women and children who had made sacrifices in pursuit of their rights, adding that their aspirations could not be extinguished through coercion or repression.
On the occasion, the government and people of Pakistan reiterated their solidarity with the Kashmiri people. The prime minister reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue its moral, diplomatic and political support for Kashmiris and advocate for their legitimate rights at national and international forums.
He expressed hope that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would realise a future marked by lasting peace, dignity, security and the fulfilment of their aspirations, including the right to self-determination.
