Algiers, November 2,2026: Algeria and the Netherlands have agreed to take concrete steps to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in key sectors, including energy, renewable energy, water resources, agriculture and food industries.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Berendsen, who is on an official working visit to Algeria on November 2-3, 2026.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was part of ongoing political dialogue between the two countries and reflected their shared commitment to revitalizing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various fields.

The two foreign ministers first held a restricted meeting, followed by expanded talks attended by members of their respective delegations. Discussions focused on reviewing the current state of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, whose historical relations span more than four centuries.

Both sides explored ways to elevate bilateral relations to new levels in line with their shared aspirations and to restore momentum to their longstanding partnership.

During the talks, the two ministers emphasized the importance of activating existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Committee for Economic and Technological Cooperation and the Political Consultations mechanism.

They also agreed on the need to strengthen the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation and encourage greater engagement between business communities in both countries to promote trade, investment and economic partnerships.

The discussions also identified potential opportunities for cooperation in several priority sectors, particularly conventional and renewable energy, water management, agriculture and food processing industries.

The two sides further exchanged views on strengthening dialogue and coordination on migration and consular affairs.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the foreign ministers to discuss key regional and international developments and exchange perspectives on issues of mutual interest.

The visit underscores the shared resolve of Algeria and the Netherlands to reinforce their historic ties, deepen political consultations and broaden practical cooperation in areas of common interest.
