Beijing, November 2,2026: China intensified its diplomatic efforts to resolve the Middle East crisis on Monday, urging a return to negotiations during separate meetings with Iranian, Omani and Saudi officials in Beijing.
The diplomatic engagements came days after US President Donald Trump issued a fresh warning of military action, more than eight months into the conflict triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which has periodically spilled over into neighbouring countries.
During a meeting with Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed Beijing’s support for Tehran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement.
Wang called on all parties to pursue dialogue and a political solution to the conflict while safeguarding regional energy security and the safety of international shipping lanes.
“All parties should, in a spirit of reason and pragmatism, focus on a political solution rather than once again resorting to armed conflict,” Wang told Bagheri Kani.
China, a major economic partner of Iran, has consistently advocated diplomatic engagement to ease tensions, particularly as the conflict has disrupted global shipping and heightened concerns over regional stability.
The Chinese foreign minister also met Saudi National Security Adviser Musaad bin Mohammad al-Aiban, during which he reiterated the importance of dialogue and regional stability.
The diplomatic push coincided with a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Beijing, marking the first visit to China by an Omani head of state since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Xi said China was ready to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the Middle East, emphasizing that the region should not become a battleground for major-power rivalry and geopolitical conflicts, state news agency Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that Beijing would send its special envoy for Middle East affairs to Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia later this month.
The planned visits will form part of China’s shuttle diplomacy efforts aimed at promoting peace talks and easing regional tensions.
The developments reflect Beijing’s efforts to engage key regional stakeholders and encourage diplomatic solutions to the ongoing crisis.
