Algiers, October 31,2026: President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune has paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the country’s liberation struggle, reaffirming that their sacrifices for freedom, sovereignty and national identity will remain an everlasting source of pride and inspiration for future generations.
In his message marking the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Glorious Liberation Revolution of November 1, 1954, President Tebboune said the historic occasion represents a defining moment in Algeria’s history and provides an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the country’s independence.
He said the Algerian people commemorate this historic national day with pride, remembering more than 130 years of colonial occupation, during which the country endured the seizure of its land, attempts to distort its history and efforts to erase its national identity.
The President described settler colonialism in Algeria as a dark stain on human history, marked by grave violations of moral principles and civilizational values. He said every part of Algeria bears the scars of colonial crimes, while every region has its own legacy of resistance.
President Tebboune recalled that resistance movements continued to emerge across the country until November 1, 1954, when a group of determined freedom fighters launched the Glorious Liberation Revolution, marking a decisive turning point in Algeria’s struggle for independence.
He said the revolutionaries endured persecution, restrictions, arrests and imprisonment, remaining steadfast in their struggle to secure freedom for their homeland. Their sacrifices and determination ensured that Algeria would emerge as an independent and sovereign nation, while the message of November would live on forever.
The President observed that Algeria, the land of millions of martyrs, remains a stronghold of genuine patriotism, strengthened by national unity and robust state institutions.
Marking the 72nd anniversary, he said the occasion not only renews pride in Algeria’s history but also calls for greater awareness of the country’s supreme national interests and the responsibilities arising from the prevailing regional situation.
Referring to cooperation with a neighbouring brotherly country, President Tebboune said constitutional authority and institutional consensus underpin efforts to safeguard Algeria’s vital interests and adopt a proactive approach as part of its national security strategy.
He added that these measures are consistent with Algeria’s commitment to preserving regional stability and ensuring that the country’s resources and national potential are utilised for development and progress through sovereign political decisions inspired by the principles of the November Revolution.
At the conclusion of his message, President Tebboune prayed for the souls of the martyrs and paid tribute to the surviving veterans of the liberation struggle, particularly women and men who participated in the revolution. He prayed for their long lives, good health and happiness.
He concluded his message with the words: “Long Live Algeria! Eternal glory to our righteous martyrs.”
