Chandigarh, December 16, 2024: Popular singer Diljit Dosanjh has announced that he will not perform in India until the country develops better infrastructure for live concerts. The announcement came during his Chandigarh show on December 14, where Diljit emphasized the need for well-equipped venues, citing their role in generating revenue and providing employment opportunities.
“We don’t have proper infrastructure for live shows here,” Diljit said. “Concerts are a significant source of revenue and create jobs for many people. This needs to improve.”
The singer also expressed his vision for future performances, aspiring to adopt international standards. “Next time, I’d like to have the stage set up in the center of the venue so the audience can surround it,” he said. “Until this happens, I won’t do shows in India, that’s for sure.”
Ahead of his Chandigarh performance, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) issued an advisory urging Diljit to avoid performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence. Tracks such as Patiala Peg, 5 Tara, and Case were specifically mentioned.
Diljit’s Indian tour is set to conclude with a final performance in Guwahati on December 29. His decision to pause performances in India has sparked conversations about the need to modernize concert venues and regulate content, highlighting gaps in the country’s live entertainment infrastructure.
