Lahore, January 5, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of the illegal reinstatement of several Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) officers who had previously been dismissed on corruption charges.

According to details, a high-level committee has been formed to investigate corruption in LESCO, with an official notification already issued. The committee has been directed to complete its investigation and submit a report within 10 days. LESCO’s management has been asked to respond to the allegations promptly.

As per the notification, LESCO’s management is accused of reinstating 12 officers in exchange for bribes and making unauthorized equipment purchases from an international supplier. Sources in the Energy Division revealed that the appointment of former Chief Executive Chaudhry Amin was also allegedly made in violation of legal procedures. The committee has summoned the current Chief Executive, LESCO Chairman, and other senior officers to Islamabad for questioning tomorrow.

Earlier, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) imposed a fine of Rs10 million on LESCO for failing to implement mandated safety measures. NEPRA stated that LESCO had been directed to complete earthing on 100% of its poles, a directive they failed to follow.

In response, NEPRA not only imposed the fine but also ordered LESCO to complete earthing of the remaining steel structures within three months and PCC poles within a year. Similar fines have previously been imposed on other power distribution companies, including K-Electric, FESCO, and GEPCO.
