Mandi Bahauddin, January 11, 2025: At least six people lost their lives, and seven others were injured after the roof of a house collapsed following an explosion at a fireworks warehouse in Mandi Bahauddin on Saturday.
According to Rescue 1122’s District Emergency Officer, Imran Khan, the explosion was caused by a short circuit while two individuals were preparing fireworks on the house’s first floor.
Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Akram Hanjan of Pahtarianwali Police Station stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The deceased include a man, three women, and two girls. Four of the victims were inside the house where the explosion occurred, one was a female resident of an adjacent house, and the sixth was a pedestrian passing by, according to the police incident report.
The injured include four men and three women. All are reported to be in stable condition, the report added.
Both SHO Akram and Rescue 1122’s Khan revealed that approximately 12 to 15 kilogrammes of fireworks material were being stored in the house at the time of the explosion.
This incident follows similar tragedies involving fireworks storage in Pakistan. In October, seven people, including a minor and a woman, died in Multan after a house roof collapsed due to fireworks stored inside. Earlier in April, two labourers lost their lives when a fire broke out at a fireworks manufacturing factory in Faisalabad.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the unsafe storage and handling of fireworks, citing the devastating risks involved.
