Islamabad, September 8, 2024- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared an educational emergency across the country on the occasion of International Literacy Day. In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of literacy, stating, “We have announced a nationwide educational emergency to achieve this critical goal. Literacy is a fundamental human and constitutional right, and it is the cornerstone of our country’s future. It goes beyond the ability to read and write—it is a gateway to empowerment, economic opportunity, and active participation in society.”

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the education agenda, saying, “Today, we renew our resolve to create a more informed and sustainable nation.”

Emphasizing the importance of education, the Prime Minister called it the backbone of society. “In response to this, we have launched a nationwide enrollment campaign, providing midday meals in schools and introducing scholarships and other incentives to reduce dropout rates and ensure that every child completes their education.”

Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the importance of partnerships in linking education to employment opportunities. “Through effective collaboration, we can connect education with job creation and self-employment, fostering a stronger and more inclusive workforce. Together, as a nation, we must work to promote literacy and education for all, building a brighter future for our children and our country.”
