Rawalpindi, February 12, 2025: A 12-year-old domestic worker succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday after being brutally tortured by her employers in the Asghar Mall area.

According to police, the girl was admitted to Holy Family Hospital with severe injuries to her head, face, and arms. The authorities have arrested the employer couple and registered a case against them under seven charges, including murder.

The torture of domestic workers remains a pressing issue in Pakistan. In December 2024, a couple in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal was arrested for physically abusing a 15-year-old maid, Mehwish. Reports revealed that the house owner’s son, Abdullah, burned her with an iron and harassed her. While police arrested Sheikh Rizwan and his wife, Ayesha, they denied the allegations. Human rights activists have repeatedly called for stricter laws and enforcement to protect domestic workers, especially minors, from exploitation and abuse.
