Karachi, March 3, 2025: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has urged fans to remain patient and look ahead after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, where they failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Speaking at an ICC sponsor event, Akram acknowledged the setback but emphasized the importance of learning from the experience and focusing on the future.
“Hosting the Champions Trophy after 29 years was a huge opportunity for Pakistan, but unfortunately, the team couldn’t deliver as expected. However, rather than dwelling on the loss, we must move forward and prepare for upcoming challenges,” Akram said.
Akram praised South African star Rachleton, calling his performances “highly impressive.” He also singled out Virat Kohli’s century against Pakistan as one of the tournament’s standout moments.
Discussing the rising costs of cricket equipment, Akram pointed out that quality bats and gear have become increasingly expensive, making it difficult for aspiring cricketers to afford them. He appreciated initiatives to provide free, high-quality kits to young players, stressing that such efforts could motivate participation at the grassroots level.
Former cricketer Nadeem Khan also addressed Pakistan’s lack of cricketing infrastructure, noting that unlike England and Australia, where every club has its own ground, grassroots players in Pakistan struggle with basic facilities. He welcomed efforts to distribute free cricket kits, calling it a positive step toward encouraging young talent.
Addressing frustration over Pakistan’s underwhelming performance, Akram acknowledged that the team’s struggles were not unexpected.
“This wasn’t a sudden defeat. We need to understand that young players require time to develop. Instead of expecting immediate success, we must be patient and build a strong squad for the future,” he said.
Looking ahead, Akram emphasized the need to focus on team development for 2026, with a particular eye on preparing for the Asia Cup. He urged fans to support younger players, allowing them the time and experience needed to improve and compete at the highest level.
