Islamabad, April 7, 2025: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-US bilateral relations, with a focus on regional security, economic cooperation, and counter-terrorism.
During the call, Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized Pakistan’s resolve to deepen its partnership with the United States, particularly in key areas such as trade, investment, and counter-terrorism. He underlined the importance of expanding economic ties to foster mutual growth.
Secretary Rubio welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with Pakistan in various sectors, notably in the development and trade of critical minerals. He stressed that economic and trade cooperation would serve as a cornerstone of future Pak-US relations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, Dar recalled the country’s successful counter-terrorism operations between 2013 and 2018, which incurred significant economic and human costs. Secretary Rubio acknowledged these efforts and expressed the United States’ willingness to enhance bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism further.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Secretary Rubio concurred on the need to address the issue of US military equipment left behind following the withdrawal from the country.
